Wayne has been in the community newspaper business for 22 years. He began publishing a weekly classified ads newspaper in 1986 in Nashville, Tenn. Since then he has been an owner or partner in more than 50 newspapers. He has always believed that the newspaper industry was inefficient and therefore had to charge their customers too much to reach the reader.
Wayne has always challenged the industry to become more efficient in the delivery of the news. He has always believed that the Internet was the future and that the method of news delivery needed to change on the local level. Wayne believes that people want to know what is going on in their local community and that they deserve a product that they can depend on. The 'Breaking News' section of athensnowonline.com is the news source that Athenians can count on and trust for the fast, accurate delivery of local news.
The time has come. The method is electronic. "NEWS" will never be printed again. If it is news, it is electronic. If news is in print, it is already history.
Â
July of 2007 Wayne and his wife Deborah started the Athens Now print publication. The print publication was designed for Information and inspiration. The articles are designed to help people. The Athens Now print publication was never designed to deliver "News."Â Wayne knew that he needed a team to deliver news.
On Monday, July 28th, Wayne received a call from Sonny Turner. Turner is a man that has been in the "News" business in Athens for 38 years. Their conversation created an explosion of ideas. The result of their ideas is the 'Breaking News' section on athensnowonline.com web site. Sonny's passion and expertise in the news business was the missing ingredient. Together Wayne and Sonny have created a team that is capable of serving their community with a news source that will deliver 'Breaking News' to Athens in the most efficient and professional manner possible.
Sonny and his news team will be in touch with the mayor's office, city council, county commissioners, sheriff and police, schools, and local business leaders. Sonny will be looking for ways to serve the community better.
News is not about one man, it is about the entire community. When you know about an issue that needs to be communicated to Athens, please allow us to serve you.
